Future Simple
- We use the Simple Future to talk about predictions, promises, offers, and spontaneous decisions. We form the Simple Future with WILL plus the infinitive form of the verb. For example:
- – It will rain tomorrow. (Prediction)
- – I will be with you the whole day. (Promises)
- – I will help you with that. (Offer)
- – I will call you right back. (Spontaneous decission).
- The structure in the affirmative form is:
- Subject + will + verb + object
- We can also use the contracted form ‘LL. For example:
- – She’ll be home by 10 o’clock.
- – They’ll give us a hand for the move.
GOING TO describes intentions and predictions. To make a sentence with GOING TO, we place the SUBJECT, then TO BE, then GOING TO, then the PRESENT SIMPLE VERB. - “I’m going to visit my grandmother tomorrow.”
- “Karen is going to dance with her husband.”
- “Alec and Brandon are going to play tennis next week.”
- -We also use GOING TO to make predictions (talk about likely outcomes).
- “Be careful! You’re going to fall!”
- “Micah is going to pass the test, you’ll see.”
- “It’s going to rain again tomorrow.”
- -We can use a short form, GONNA, in informal speech.
- “It’s gonna snow on Thursday.”
- “I’m gonna be late for work again.”
