At the 1996 Grammy Awards, Kiss From a Rose by Seal won awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The song was the second single taken from the Batman Forever film soundtrack which made it wildly popular, despite the fact that the singer himself was originally not very proud of the song before recording it.

Grammar – Can/ Can’t

Can/ Can’t
- CAN is a modal verb that we use to express ability, possibility and permission in the present tense. For example:
– She can speak English fluently. (Ability)
– John and you can come anytime you want. (Possibility)
– Can I go to Mary’s party on Saturday? (Permission)
Like all modal verbs, can doesn’t need an auxiliary to form the NEGATIVE or INTERROGATIVE. To form the interrogative we just need to add NOT after can (or its contracted form CAN’T).
For example:
– They can not play guitar.
– They can’t play guitar.
Subject + can not / can’t + verb + object
To create interrogatives, we just need to move the verb CAN before the subject.
For example:
– Can we stay with you today?
– Can’t they join us for lunch?
Can + subject + verb + object?
From the text:
There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say
I don’t get it why rose is on the gray probably the rose is withering!
That is a possible explanation for the lyrics!
It was terrific. I had fun
I search the meaning of the sentence: “I’ve been kissed by a rose on the gray” and I found many things including “Batman”…. I don’t get it yet.
Nobody knows the true meaning but it is likely that it is a poetic metaphor. Many think it has something to do with drugs, while others hear it as an expression of love or a journey to the afterlife. Seal, the singer, has never explained what the song is about, offering only that there was “some kind of relationship that inspired the lyrics.”
I love the song 💜
Nostalgic…
