Days of the Week
- The seven (7) days of the week in English are:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are called WEEKDAYS.
Saturday and Sunday together are called the WEEKEND.
-When we write days of the week we use CAPITAL (UPPERCASE) letters for the first letter.
-We can place LAST or NEXT before a day of the week (or weekend) to refer to one week in the past or one week in the future.
“What are you doing next weekend?”
“Where were you last Tuesday?”
“I am going to Italy next Friday.”
-We can combine WEEK+LY to talk about things that happen each week. WEEKLY is an adverb.
“We have a weekly team meeting in my office.”
“Chris and Amanda go to the gym weekly.”
-In many English-speaking countries, weekly calendars begin with Sunday, rather than Monday.
