Improve your listening and writing skills by filling in the blanks in the song lyrics. Today’s proposal is by the band Garbage, composed by three American musicians and the Scottish vocalist Shirley Manson. The meaning of the song When I Grow Up generates some disagreement, though many understand it to be about the singer’s insecurities as a teenager.

Grammar – First Conditional

First Conditional
- We use the FIRST CONDITIONAL to talk about future possibilities or things that are likely to happen in the future. For example:
- – If I have enough money, I will go to Boston this summer.
- The structure of the first conditional is:
- If + present simple verb, will + infinitive:
- – If the teacher is good, the class will be easy to follow.
We can substitute “if” with “when” when the condition will definitely happen. For example:
-When I die, I’ll leave all my money to charity.
We can also use the first conditional in the NEGATIVE FORM. For example:- – If the hotel is not available, I won’t book it.
- If + don’t / doesn’t + present simple verb, won’t + infinitive
- In this case, both parts of the sentence are negative, but we might find sentences where one part is negative and the other is affirmative. For example:
- If + don’t / doesn’t + present simple verb, will + infinitive
- – If she doesn’t study, she’ll fail her exam.
- If + present simple verb , will not / won’t + infinitive
- – If it rains, I won’t go to the concert.
It’s a pretty nice song because it expresses the consequences of an action and also when people say that they will change after a time.
The song was good to hear but I have had a few difficulties to fill the lyrics in the blanks
