Be going to / Gonna

  • We use BE GOING TO to express future plans or predictions. For example:
  • – I’m going to be in London for two weeks (future plans).
  • – It’s going to rain this afternoon (prediction).
  • Subject + To Be + going to + verb + object.
  • To form the negative, we have to use NOT after to be (or its contracted form). For example:
  • – I’m not going to go to his birthday party.
  • – He is not going to have dinner with us tomorrow.
  • Subject + To Be + NOT + going to + verb + object.
  • To ask questions, we simple move the verb to be before the subject. For example:
  • – Are you going to visit the British Museum when you go to London?
  • – Is she going to have time to finish everything she has planned?
  • To be + subject + going to + verb + object.

In informal slang, “going to” can be shortened to “gonna”.
