We propose today a song by the Australian pop duo Savage Garden. The duo achieved international success in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s with several hit singles, among them today’s exercise of To The Moon & Back.
The expression “to the moon and back” of the title is actually an idiom used in English. It means ‘more than anything else’ in reference to the large distance between the Earth and the Moon. For example, it can be used as a superlative expression of love: “I love you to the moon and back.” The song plays with this expression, using it as a metaphor. The lyrics are about a woman who does not seem to be lucky in love. And if she finds “the right kind of pilot” to love, she will fly him “to the moon and back.”

It was quite difficult for others and me, to understand the song of these pair of Australian singers to learn them with lots of expressions in a difficult English ,for us and their rare accents.I believed and I hope don’t continue learning English with them .Sorry, I had listened the song and after a lot of time finally I coud find all the lyrics but it all was crazy
Love this song. Thanks for the lesson.
Hi Sunny,
A song in English without challenges to understand all expressions is not worth being heard – I loved the exercise. And the poetry of the lyrics is thought provoking.
Great
