EVER is an adverb of time that is used to express an indefinite time and means “at any time” or “of all time”. It is mainly used in questions and negative sentences, where it means “never”.
For example:
– Have you ever seen the rain?
– Has she ever been to London?
– I don’t think I will ever eat at that restaurant again.
We can also use EVER to express strong emphasis on what we are saying. For example:
– If you ever come back, I will call the police.
– Don’t ever do that again.
In a formal context, we can use EVER with an adjective to mean “always”. For example:
– Mary is ever ready to help her friends.
