That’s the question on everyone’s mind!
According to experts, it looks like we won’t be returning to our old ways—at least, not for a long while.
How does your post-COVID holiday look?
No one is more anxious to get travel started again than the travel industry itself, as it’s losing money daily. The United Nations World Tourism Organization reports that the decrease in international travel for the rest of 2020 could mean a loss of revenue up to $1.2 trillion.
But to revive tourism, major changes are coming. We’re already seeing increased cleaning and the use of personal protection equipment, but what else is in store?
Here are some of the differences experts predict!
Changes in air travel
You’ll almost certainly need to wear a mask from departure to arrival. You may see more touchless check-in, with things like face scanning and biometrics. Health questionnaires and temperature checks will be common.
Many airlines are banning alcohol for at least a few months to increase safety. As for food, passengers will probably be able to bring their own in order to limit in-flight food service.
Limited crowds
There’s going to be more crowd control: Many tourist spots will use online reservations to limit the number of visitors at one time. Some amusement parks are even creating “virtual lines” to avoid crowds waiting for rides.
For events like concerts and parades, there might be a combination of guests who attend in person, and those who watch virtually. And of course, we can’t forget masks and temperature checks!
Increased domestic travel
Many travellers are now vacationing closer to home. This summer in the United States, 48% of travellers are staying local—that’s 33% higher than last summer.
Road trips to outdoor locations are also more popular because it’s easier to social distance. As a result, more travellers are renting RVs in some places.
Higher prices
People are travelling less. There are also smaller crowds at travel destinations due to social distancing. This means businesses are losing money. To make up for this, everything will probably become more expensive—like flights, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment spots.
Are you prepared for take-off?
It’s clear that tourism is changing in some significant ways. Are you ready to pack your bags and go?
